‘Bush Tucker Activity Book’ aims to address some of the issues of the loss of cultural identity being experienced by Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands people, while at the same time providing hours of fun for young readers.

The first edition is written for 6 – 8 year olds and is one of a series of educational books proposed for release by the publishers. It is designed to be fun, informative and user friendly.

This 24-page book focuses on the animals, birds, fish, insects and other native foods that Australia’s indigenous peoples thrived on for 40,000 or more years prior to European contact. Its puzzles, quizzes, drawings and colouring pages introduce children to the fascinating world of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander foods, culture and experience.

Through this and future books, author Ruth Barker hopes to play a small but positive role in recording Australia’s indigenous culture for the benefit of present and future generations and assisting with the reconciliation process.

Hopefully, families will buy it for their children and schools will include it in their libraries.
